NPR's Best Books 2014

Could this 250 book list be my 2015 challenge?  Pulled this list from here: http://apps.npr.org/best-books-2014/

Sleep Number's SleepIQ Technology

I was recently invited to visit the Sleep Number store and learn more about their new SleepIQ technology.  With all the fitness trackers and heart rate monitors on the market, it's no surprise that monitoring your sleep is important.  And, why wouldn't you want to know that information?  I couldn't tell you how I sleep.  Unless Jack is awake in the middle of the night (horrible sleeper), I sleep like a rock.  All work and no play make Ellen a dull girl.

I went into the Woodfield store a little timidly and admittedly a little worried.  I am so glad I went though.  I was greeted by Marisel (she's a 35) and she took me right back to a bed in the corner that had screens set up to see where your pressure was when you sleep and how they can alleviate it in real time. It was so cool.  I also learned that when they adjust the air levels in the Sleep Number beds, you don't have to change it when moving from back to side and when set in my optimal number (I'm a 55), my feet are higher than my hips and my back is in perfect alignment.  Chiropractors must hate the SleepNumber store.

Also, while I was in the store, there was a couple in there as well.  They were looking to replace their currently mattress of 16 years!!! That's a long time!  SleepNumber runs a deal that you don't have to buy the whole base and mattress but just the mattress if you're replacing a bed.  They got a good deal and they were more than happy to tell me how much they loved their SleepNumber.  It was fun to shop along side them as a first timer.

Right now, the Sleep Number bed is out of our price range, but when we are back in the market for a new mattress, Sleep Number will be our first and last stop!

That one time I yelled at an animal

I was very quietly working on Monday which is my work from home day.  Studiously working away mind you.  All of a sudden, I hear an incessant tapping.  My first thought was that some toy belonging to the two kids was running.  Except that they'd been gone for hours and we really don't have many toys that run by themselves.  So, I tiptoed out into the living room (in broad daylight because I was scared) to find the guinea pigs snoring and certainly not itching or doing some other stupid thing that might have caused the noise that was still going.  Then I got the brilliant idea to go outside.  Maybe a utility man of some variety was in the driveway performing work and I didn't hear him-- I was studiously working mind you.  Went outside to an empty drive way and an asshole woodpecker attached to the back of my house.  He responded to, "Hey, asshole! Find someone else to annoy!" by flying away and thankfully not returning.

I then had to explain to my Iranian landlord what a woodpecker was and the damage he had caused.  Youtube videos were used for backup. Sometimes I wonder why this stuff happens to me.

Life Updates

Social Butterfly: I joined the Jaycees -- I'm sure I'll have more info to follow.  Felipe has been a member for a year and they've been encouraging me to join.  Personally, I didn't feel I had the time to commit and I still feel that way.  We'll see.  It's a group open to those aged 21-40 for social and personal development with a heavy dose of helping your community.

Ch-ch-ch-changes: I cut 4 inches off my hair.  It was kind of a big deal since I only cut my hair about every 6-12 months.  Minor details.  Who has the time?!

Pro Tip: If, for example, the red melted wax from a Scentsy nightlight wax warmer gets spilled all over the bathroom sink and counter, Mr Clean Magic Eraser is your friend. #themoreyouknow #kidsarethereasonwecanthavenicethings

Beer Making: Felipe thinks he needs a new hobby.  Ellen doesn't want to clean up more messes.  We'll see.

Terrible Two's: Jack threw a fit this weekend and was sent to his room.  It got really quiet and I found him sleeping in the chair in his room.  I approved of that reaction.
